Joanna Della Valle, like some of our other Style Setters, is someone we’ve crossed paths with many times over the years. We all were at Vogue at the beginning of our careers and continued to run into Joanna at fashion shows and other events when she worked for Interview magazine. Joanna, whose style veered toward a more downtown rock’n’roll vibe then, was, and still is, fun, warm, and engaging.
Then, in what seemed straight out of a fairy tale, she married Emanuele Della Valle, son of Diego Della Valle, and moved to Milan. Now she’s back living in New York with her husband and two adorable children in Greenwich Village. Recently, she convinced her husband to launch a website (and app), Elizabeth Street, which premieres today, where women like Joanna–chic, fashion-forward moms, can hear from other style-setting moms about everything from where to find the best onesy to favorite date-night restaurants to where to take your kids if you’re visiting Paris, LA and other destinations. We think it’s a must-read for moms, mothers to be, aunts, grandmothers, and beyond.
It was refreshing to see that Joanna is still the same girl we got to know years ago, but now with a more grownup style and sensibility. Here, she shares some of her style essentials and more.
What is Elizabethstreet.com, and who is the Elizabeth Street woman? Elizabethstreet.com is a website started by my husband, Emanuele, after my complaining that there wasn’t a site out there that spoke to me and my mom friends. An Elizabeth Street woman is a mom who likes to travel with her kids, lets them jump in puddles on a rainy day, and tries out the hot new restaurant but at 5:30 so she can take them.
Five Spring Essentials: Céline black double-breasted boy blazer with gold buttons, Isabel Marant batik jumpsuit, Roger Vivier fuchsia leopard clutch, LL Bean boat tote with yellow handles, James Perse orange T-shirt.
Three beauty musts: I cannot live without Creme de la Mer original moisturizing cream. I have been using Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser for all skin types forever. I mix Serge Lutens Sa Majeste La Rose and Fleurs D’Oranger perfumes; I spray both scents and it smells a little differently each time.
Next destination: A weekend getaway to Bucks County, Pennsylvania. My husband and daughter are obsessed with finding the perfect farm.
A perfect day is: A trip to the zoo, a playdate with a friend, and dinner at home cooked by my husband, who is a great cook!
Latest obssession: Downton Abbey
Keeps me sane: My sister!
