Apartment envy: Scott’s Parisian pied-a-terre

I really love designer L’Wren Scott’s apartment in Paris that ran yesterday on Vogue.com. (She shares it with Mick Jagger; her life is rough!) My living room is almost the same color palette as hers (minus the fantastic only-in-Paris moldings and groovy artwork). Two things I took away from it that I am considering:

1) A lucite console table. There is what looks to be one way back on the left in her living room. I’ve been thinking about one for my entry hall, but don’t want to veer into that David Hicks’ 70s era kitschy-ness that I am frankly so tired off. Scott’s looks sophisticated, and since a lucite table is basically a blank canvas, I should be able to make it work. Peekabo lucite console, below, $379, CB2.com.

2) A bench in place of a chair. I love the proportion her bench instead of chair at her desk. The Ballard Designs Monfort bench, below, would easily do the trick. Plus you can change the upholstery fabric for something with more zing. Bench, from $549, Ballarddesigns.com.

  1. I hear you about the David Hicks ’70s kitsch – such a yawn. And agree that lucite consoles or side tables can look fresh and modern, are blank canvases and mix well with pieces from all periods. The bench concept at a desk an interesting concept. I think it would work best at a more decorative desk in a living room. But in a “working” office, may be hard to pull off. My chairs at my home office and at my studio are both on wheels – much too busy grabbing the phone, files, reaching for stuff to be “scooching” a bench around. And, chairs on wheels can still look great – the one at my studio is a mid-century Ward Bennett upholstered in an aubergine leather and looks very chic! Great post – got me thinking about new ideas!

  2. Amy Howard does lucite in a really sturdy way that seems classic instead of trendy. I’ve seen and coveted the coffee table but there is also a console:

Hard to tell from the pic but it is nice and thick. Luckily she has an outlet in Memphis so I can drool whenever I feel like it!

  3. The thing I’d like to take away is the Warhol picture of Mick!
