Am I a suit woman?

Having never worked in a traditional business environment, I am not hardwired to wear a suit. When I was at Vogue, Grace Coddington wore perfectly tailored suits to evening events and always looked polished and pulled-together. But, we rarely wore them to the office and now that I think about it, I don’t think I have ever owned one. Blazers, yes, and matching tops and bottoms, but not a finely tailored, menswear inspired jacket and pant. If I ever wanted to try one, now is the time.

This weekend the WSJ ran a round-up of some of the season’s best trouser suits. My favorite, and the one I have my heart set on, is from the recent Dior spring show. Raf Simons, in his debut RTW collection for Dior, opened the show with a trio of drop-dead gorgeous suits. But I also love one from the Theyskens’ Theory resort show and will try it first as it will be in stores early December.  I will let you know if a pant-suit suits me.

  • I love the Dior suit. Even in these days of dressing down, as an attorney there are still occasions where a suit is appropriate and advantageous from a professional image standpoint. I love a polished pantsuit. I like skirted suits too, but a pant suit hits the right note in today’s business climate, in my opinion. The options shown are great!

  • I would love a tuxedo, YSL if at all possible! I have one Margaret Howell trouser suit which I adore but wear quite infrequently.

  • I wore an Ann Taylor black pant suit that I adored for years to work. Now, in retirement and working in a boutique, I wear a Donna Karan version of the black suit…..less structure, but beautiful flowing lines.
    Love the Theyskens Theory version!

  • I got a pant suit made bc pant suits are pretty unforgiving when badly made and you can’t hide with nice legs or cleavage…conservative suit, high heels does get second looks almost as much as pencil skirts for me. I love how Dior accessorised the suit with the scarf…

  • I like it when the pant suit is composed of two separates, especially if the jacket has some detail. e.g. a barely seen pattern that does not exist in the pants. It would give the illusion of a suit (being the same color), but would look more interesting. Of course this only works in black and white because with any other color, there will be a bit of a hue difference.
