Moto is okay

So I have been mulling over the comments on my ‘Trends I hate’ post, especially the ones from folks who disagreed with me on the biker jacket.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s jacket is moto to me, a more British (Belstaff?) style. Her adorable twin daughters sport biker-inspired jackets, as in Harley-wear. But this is just semantics and I have changed my mind. Sarah Jessica’s look is a spot-on school-run outfit, moto-jacket and all. Part of what makes her look so good is the proportions– the trim jacket over the longer grey cardigan is a nice touch.

  2. I love her jacket and think it’s the Belstaff, which is a fortune. My husband just got a similar one from Barbour, and it’s very cool. I’ve had the same black leather one for about 28 years. Have never found one I like more for me, in the traditional style, but would love one like the Belstaff.

  3. Just looked, and there’s a black waxed cotton version that’s identical. Great looking. One leather one left that’s been marked down 50% – size 6.

  4. You’re off the biker because you associate it with Harleys. I had a lovely French boyfriend who drove a BMW motorcycle across the US. His biker jacket looked amazing on him. ( he was from the 17th btw). He was also elegant and charming. I just bought my 22 year old a great biker jacket in soft black leather with black zips and a hood. She looks amazing in it. That Belstaff is just silly.

  6. Just a week ago I saw the Barbour version on Orvis. I thought it was interesting, but perhaps a bit too “official” looking for me. Now that I see it dressed down as SJP is wearing it, I can see it for myself. Normally I would lean toward the more “biker” look, but this look could be a lot of fun too.

  8. I like this look. I know why! It’s a peplum effect SJP has achieved via the belt on her jacket = Hourglass shape. Go on, admit it. It’s a classic shape, because it’s a woman’s shape.

  10. I personally still like the moto jacket look… and if you have a tiny waist like SJP, it looks so good belted! It is being overdone, but I think its a keeper.

  11. I would keep to the biker jacket without doubt, the belstaff cries out “old-fashioned”
high waisted, belted, I hate it.

  12. I personally think that this is more of a short leather trench that SJP is wearing. Very chic!

  14. The black leather biker jacket is a classic American icon, not to be confused with the English Barbour country look which is something completely different. To me, the biker jacket is one of the quinessential American fashion gifts we have given the rest of the world, a timeless piece that can be dressed up or down, but always worn with the American sense of fun and positive attitude! 15. A belted biker jacket is so flattering on a woman’s figure. I love this one too. I’ll be working backstage at the Belfast show next month and I can’t wait to see how they elevate biker fashion for fall 2013! Illysia from http://www.madlychic.com
