Tights with sandals?

Arizona Muse

I am actually a fan of tights with sandals, especially as we head into spring. There’s no snow on the ground and hey, if you have a cute pair just waiting to be worn…  They can’t just be any sandals, as on Arizona Muse above, they need to be somewhat substantial and I wouldn’t wear beige (shoes or hose).

Cece sent this pic of Carine Roitfeld below to help my cause (thank you Cece!).

An aside, all hosiery is ‘tights’ to me…

  • Her hose looks a bit sheer for a tight, but I agree with the right look and clear weather conditions, it can work. I think as long as the shoe is, as you say substantial, and the hose is similarly thicker and not a beige shade, it can make a cohesive look. I like a little pattern in the tight for interest, too.

  • I tried the tight+sandal look a few months back and honestly did not love it – however i do like the one in the picture. I think I just might have had the wrong sandal.s

  • Are you kidding me?!

  • I totally agree with you Preston.

I do find that not everyone knows how to properly pull it off. Here’s a photo of Ms. Roitfeld pulling off the look in a very unexpected way:

  • this should not happen

  • I agree it is a stylish look as long as the sandals are substantial. As far as beige shoes are concerned, I actually wear black tight with a full cover open-toe beige/tan sandals. The contrast works well. Love your blog!

  • Love Carine’s look, as usual. I love tights/hoisery, I am a little over seeing these ladies with bare legs in late fall, or, I kid you not, sometimes even in winter. It looks completely ridiculous and yet, I just saw it in the city a couple of weeks ago.

  • I need to wear stockings at work (tights, pantyhose, whatever you like to call leg wear). I work in the legal profession. I have worn either sheer black, opaque black, or patterned stockings/tights with heeled shoes of all descriptions for aaaages. No one has died of shock. I like it, especiallly my variety of peep toe kitten heeled shoes, but also with sandles and some with ankle straps. I think it looks a little fresher than a closed toe shoe. It feels a little European, ie Italian. I had no idea this was a no no for some. That ‘no no’ idea seems hilarious to me! Stop it with so many rules about what’s acceptable, cool, attractive. It’s all in how you hold yourself, and what ideas you reference in your style.
