Down-to-earth heels
The best thing I bought this fall? The Valentino low-heeled, ankle strap pumps on Emmanuelle Alt above middle. I have a pair in black and another in beige, and the patent makes them somewhat all-weather. Great with pants and skirts – they have really gone the distance. I know that I will wear them until they fall apart. That will be a sad day.
The WSJ ran a really good article and pictures on the lower-heel trend– I especially love Shala’s vintage pair below left.

Thank you for showing these lovely examples! At last low heels become available again and I’m loving them all. I just stocked up on a few pairs recently including some brogues and slipper shapes. I sooooo want the Valentino pair on Emmanuelle Alt.
I’m so happy about down-to-earth heels. I love a comfy shoe.
I’m happy to see the lower heel also. The chic look of a flat, but a little more flattering and dressy.
Funny, because the Valentino shoe you’re describing is the thing I just thought about over the weekend that I feel was this Fall’s biggest mistake for me, but NOT purchasing. They just went so fast, and I’m always wishing that I had them, that they’d be the perfect shoe for this or that. I wish they’d bring them out again.
When I was 16 I was always in the highest shoes I could find…. Sadly I was a lot slimmer and my feet didn’t mind!!!
Now the flesh looks a bit fuller ( not quite a walrus yet!..) my feet feel so much happier in lower shoes without looking frumpy….
These shoes look ideal!
Thanks to your blog I saw the Valentino shoes and bought them in black and tan. I knew i had to jump on the purchases or i would really regret it. I love your blog and your eye!
I have the Valentino shoes in red – I was too late to catch the black or beige. I love them so much, that every time I wear them they make me happy. My favorite way to wear them is with a J.Crew pencil skirt and a simple crew neck top. I regularly check shopstyle and yoox to find left over black or beige ones, but no luck so far!
