My Current Run-Around Uniform

Honest to God, these are the pieces I have been living in recently.

Elle MacPherson may be doing the school-run in leather pants; I save mine for meetings. The Frame Denim black skinnies are my run-around pant of choice. They are really comfortable and have a lot of stretch so the knees don’t lose their shape as I get in and out of the car. Note: they run large by a size or two. I bought 2 pairs, the second are smaller to wear under tunics, almost like leggings.

The Banjo + Matilda cashmere  sweater is the perfect spring staple. I have it in both black and light grey and layer it with the Proenza Schouler Tees in python and tie-dye.

My Chloe snake-print scallop-edged flats from two seasons ago are camel (too orange-y) colored and not as versatile as the ones above. I may have to put these on my wish-list.

I know I have already raved about the Givenchy Pandora, but it’s the ‘Ginsu’ of bags. It can be worn on my arm, shoulder, or cross body. And the best bit are the separate compartments for wallet and stuff– no more digging for keys in a big, dark hole. Mine doesn’t have the woven top unfortunately.

Yellow gold is my thing and I love this Aurelie Bidermann braided cuff and Dean Harris hoops, both are classic, yet modern.

The Isabel Marant navy scarf paired with all black is super chic.

I love my Dita aviators so much that they are welded to my head.

Ta da!

  • SO CHIC!

  • My spring uniform is virtually the same, although I definitely favor Lanvin flats. Have been eyeing the Pandora bag for a while but reluctant to pull the trigger. Preston, do you really love it? I need it for every day running around/school drop off/etc.

  • I LOVE it! But I don’t like the washed shearling leather.

  • This is the type of post I LOVE! A tip like this is soooo helpful. Thank you!
    Love the whole outfit.

  • Inspirational – this is what I tell everyone who will listen, invest in key pieces that work with basics for everyday instant chic – who has time to think about what to wear in the morning?

  • It’s practical/functional & comfortable while stylish – but what about the jacket or coat? Short trench? Utility jacket? It’s still chilly in the mornings.

  • Well, I guess I’m going to be running around looking just like you! Love it!

  • A very lovely outfit that I covet- but approximately $4,695!

    TessApril 8th, 2013  1:08 PM

  • I love every bit of this look, especially the shoes and bag!

  • Tess: You can buy similar items at lower price points. I can’t afford the clothings in the KIC shop except J.Crew. But I still get the inspirations and ideas on styling. My sense of style has gotten more chic and sophisticated since I started reading KIC less than a year ago.

  • Love the look – the gold and navy with the black sells it.

  • I just love the gold cuff Peston. It’s just beautiful (everything else also). I love the black and navy together, and with the grey snakeskin shoes – gorgeous. The gold cuff and earrings will lift the look to a luxurious level. I have a Tiffany yellow gold mesh bangle that does that for me, but the cuff in your story seems more modern to me. I like the bag too, especially as it can be worn in the 3 ways you list. I can’t stand not being able to carry my bag on my shoulder. If you had your tan shoes, I’m sure that would be great because of the gold jewellery.

  • Last summer I purchased the Givenchy Nightingale. The salesperson at Bergdorfs tried to get me to try the Pandora. I have no regrets but have the Pandora in the shopping cart and ready to pull the trigger! Preston, next time post a pic of you in your super chic outfit!! I have 7 more weeks of hockey left with the boys and this has inspired me to keep it together in the rink for the next 2 months!!! Thank you!!!

  • Love, love, love this post, Preston. I spend most of my day in run around clothes, so this is really inspiring. I’d love to know what you wear in summer. I live in Texas, and it’s a struggle to look cute while it’s 110 degrees outside.
