Lovely Lilly

“Essentially Lilly” A Guide to Colorful Entertaining

Perhaps my post yesterday on easy dresses was an unconscious homage to Ms. Pulitzer and her revolutionary shifts. I grew up in Lilly Pulitzer dresses and skorts, and so did my girls. Colorful and washable; a mother’s dream. Lilly had a shop in Edgartown down on the dock in the 1960’s where you could buy her famous fabrics by the yard. I fell hard for a bright yellow with orange ducks print that my mother had made into a maxi dress for me. I will try to dig up the picture.

  • Lilly is up there with Vera Bradley in my “why didn’t I think of that” category. Simple cotton fabric in unusual, appealing prints. No matter how sophisticated, we all find room for such things. I love the whole preppy, summertime vibe, so I’ve always loved Lilly clothing.

  • I have been remembering my Lilly dresses fondly! Though I would not wear them now.
