Am I crazy?

Three years ago when Karl Lagerfeld showed clogs for Chanel I thought ‘Hell no, not going there’. But, at horse shows everybody wears them and I started hankering for a custom pair in navy wool-felt with a red monogram to wear with jeans. Many of you say you live in clogs so, I’m going to take these Isabel Marant’s on a test drive. I’ll let you know.

  • Preston, when you talk about the clogs that people wear at horse shows I am guessing that you mean Dansko clogs? Those get cuter all the time. I saw someone wearing a pair the other day in my doctor’s office in sort of a tapestry that was very nice.

  • I almost ordered these last week, then thought I was crazy. Now I’m back on them.

    kathyJune 6th, 2013  10:03 AM

  • I also heard that they run small and to order a size up – confirmed by Farfetch.

  • I bought these clogs in 2006. They are Dansko clogs which were painted on by an Alaskan artist. At the time they were being sold through Nordstom, but they can be bought online through the artist, too. Hands down the most admired, commented on article of clothing I have ever purchased. I still wear them and they still look great. To me, clogs are a basic essential.

  • Clogs will always be useful and comfy in certain situations – some people don’t wear anything else! These are cute…but I doubt that anyone will know they are Isabel Marant. As Kim said – Dansko clogs can be just as cute – it’s not necessary to spend almost $400 for a pair of clogs!

  • I am a physician and have to wear dansko clogs at work. Very comfortable but ugly as sin. I do like the Isabel Marant ones. Preston, would love to hear your review of them.

  • Ariat makes good clogs also. Extremely comfortable too (for wearing to all those horse events)
Bet they cost a lot less than Isabel Marant’s!

  • Beware: I’ve always loved clogs and bought a pair by Ugg last year (black suede, wood sole). The sound of me clomping across hard wood floors drove me nuts! They are now in the bag to go to my college daughter and her roommates!

    CatherineJune 6th, 2013  2:26 PM

  • Yep, I pass many things on to my 2 teenaged daughters…

    PrestonJune 6th, 2013  2:38 PM

  • Every year when we go to Vail I almost come home with a pair of these:

So I say “why not,” though you might find some very nice options with similar styling at a lower price.

  • Like any other leather classic, they will only improve with age. Once you live in them a while, they can even take on a certain sexiness, like a boyfriend’s sweater.

  • Caution..it’s a slippery slope..I’m a horse girl from ct..I never follow a barn trend..don’t want to end up looking like Camilla Parker B…Wellies maybe..but you have more taste..sorry to say it…

    LeslieJune 7th, 2013  1:48 AM

  • Agreed with leslie…you are too stylish for this look.

    SheilaJune 7th, 2013  7:28 AM

  • But if Gwyneth showed up in a pair, they would suddenly be deemed “stylish”. Isn’t style about how one wears and puts together different looks, not just whether the individual elements of the look are “stylish” in their own right? Can’t Preston’s vision of a wool clog with a monogram and jeans be viewed as “stylish” and admired as worn by her even by those who aren’t fans of clogs? I thought we were examining “style” in the bigger sense.

    AprilJune 7th, 2013  9:29 AM

  • I think you have to be really boho and nonchalant to pull these off… if you pair them with polish they just look frumpy.

    allisonJune 7th, 2013  10:39 AM

  • Nope

    NicoleJune 7th, 2013  10:46 AM

  • I have the UGG clog boots and I love them. they are fleece lined and wear them all the time during the winter. I think it has to do with the rest of your outfit. If you pair them well, they look wonderful, as with anything else!

    ChennillJune 7th, 2013  11:01 AM

  • Leslie nailed it. Some things may improve with age but clogs would not be among them.

    Shelby SlaterJune 7th, 2013  11:46 AM

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE Them. But get the ‘swedish hasbeens’ super high-authentic and a proper classic. They look cool with skinnies or wide legs for day to day running around. I’ve got to agree where Isabel Marant goes is a trend that will take off in a big way!

    Anna Wynne-WilliamsJune 7th, 2013  2:35 PM

  • sorry, but they are ugly…

    sharonJune 7th, 2013  3:01 PM

  • I’m anxiously awaiting your review of the clogs. I love my Ariat clogs for winter, but haven’t checked to see what they have for summer. I know women swear by how comfortable they are, and maybe they’re the answer to all my running around this summer. All those Scandinavians can’t be wrong! Cheers, Laura from http://www.cocktailsandgelato.com

  • Love, love, love clogs! I used to wear them- Mia brand/ woven top- in high school (’80s) with argyle socks and a plaid uniform skirt. I would hardly describe myself as boho (more “creatively classic”) and can still pull off clogs (now Uggs brand), I’m told–even by my teenage daughters–(“they’re so you”) with jeans, a nice jacket, make-up. I think it’s all how you wear and feel in them…pretty comfy for “heels” too.

  • I can’t resist this conversation! I have on my navy blue Sven leather clogs today in New York. 3″plus heels make them feel chic like boots in the winter and super comfortable. They come in leathers like bronze and silver too.
I buy them at Zingara in Venice Beach ,CA. My daughter who introduced me to them and I are addicted.
