Georgia O’Keeffe and Lake George

My boarding school bedroom was decorated with two things– Marimekko bedding and a Georgia O’Keeffe flower print. Both transport me back to a very specific time and place.

Earlier this summer I was in Saratoga visiting family and was not aware of a Georgia O’Keeffe show right up the road in Glens Falls, NY. I kicked myself when I read a review in the NYT’s after I got back.

O’Keeffe spent a series of summers on Lake George at the estate of her husband’s family, the photographer Alfred Stieglitz. The resulting paintings of the lake, barns, and surrounding area are truly breathtaking.

The show is up until September 15th at the Hyde Collection and I may make a detour after I drop my older daughter at boarding school in two weeks.

  • I was delighted to see this post on O’Keefe and Lake George. I live at the lake in the summer with my family and believe that it is the prettiest lake aside from Lake Como. If you come up, stay a night at the Sagamore Resort and understand why O’Keefe fell in love with the landscape.

Btw, I am a huge fan of KIC.
