Fave Re-run

My fall uniform

Images © Paris Vogue

I am re-running this post from last fall because I am heading up to Cambridge, Wellesley, and Amherst  for college interviews before I take my older daughter back to boarding school just north of Boston.

It’s not cool enough yet for this complete look, but I have been wearing my white jeans with a fisherman knit sweater (permanently borrowed from my mother) these past few days. Topped with a pea coat (mine is shorter), this will be my run-around look from now until spring. Add low heeled pumps or booties, and I can go to meetings straight from school drop-off.

  • Any idea who did the sweater in the top photo?

  • Love it! Totally me! But I need a “lighter” version of the fisherman, as I am South for most of the winter …..any suggestions???

  • Love this look. What color pumps or booties do you like with this look. I’m in the South too so it’ll be rare that I’ll wear the coat.

  • Reminds me of Ali MacGraw in Love Story!
    Same simple, effortless, chic wardrobe.
Actually, I think she wore these three classic pieces–white jeans, fisherman’s sweater, pea coat—throughout the movie, but not all at the same time.

  • Love this! Have we decided where the two pictured pea coats can be sourced?

  • Totally with you on this look. I’ll switch between a navy pea jacket and a black one. The white jeans and fisherman sweaters will go all winter. Nothing could be easier until it gets too cold for it.

  • Love this look. Have been on the hunt for the right coat. Gucci did a great one this year..lighter weight wool, Burberry has one too.

  • I love my whiteys too, but how do I get over the no white jeans after Labor Day thing??? I love the look especially with a winter sweater, but I feel like not everyone will have gotten the memo.
    Thoughts?
    Thx.

  • Cream and white are gorgeous together esp with contrasted texture!

  • Love, love, love! If anyone spies a fisherman sweater that a girl with a chest can wear without looking all Michelin Man-ish, please post details.

  • I am always on the hunt for the perfect fishermans sweater. Usually they’re too bulky or way too warm, but I’m absolutely loving the first one. Styled with the pea coat it’s a tres chic run around uniform. Also loving the white jeans and I’m guessing a brown vintage style belt. Reminds me of one of my favorite photos from Parisian Chic and Mme de la Fressange. Cheers and enjoy your travels, Laura from http://www.cocktailsandgelato.com

  • Love the look. White jeans can be taken all the way through winter for sure!

  • Love this look, comfy but so pulled together. I hate putting away my white jeans so this year I’ve decided I’m going to live a little on the wild side and wear them as long as possible. Life is too short to live by someone else’s silly rule, no white after Labor Day.

    MonicaSeptember 4th, 2013  12:23 PM

  • Agree with Robbi. Would love to see a post on fisherman sweaters that aren’t too bulky. Another thing I love about this look is that it translates well to all different price points.

    KimSeptember 4th, 2013  12:31 PM

  • I love this look…but I’m totally drawn to the Tabitha Simmons two tone flats in the KIC shop. I’ve got to figure out how to include them in this look!

    ChennillSeptember 4th, 2013  12:50 PM

  • Though obviously not offensive or unappealing, this look is old news, especially with the ever preppy predictable aviators. IMO it’s a recycled ho hum WASP-y wannabe blue blood look with no new angle. But that’s just my opinion…..

  • I switch to a pale grey jean in the fall. I, too, have a hard time wearing white/white jeans during autumn/winter. Fisherman sweaters are great, but too bulky on me. I go with a fine cashmere cable.

  • I loved this look the first time, and I love it just as much a year later. It’s really not about what is up-to-this-absolute second fashion. It’s about style, and that’s forever.

  • Very smart looking. Love both photos.

  • I saved the picture of the top jacket from last year when you posted it and sill love it! An all- time favorite look modernized with the zipper details and high cut armhole. I have been looking for this jacket since!
