Who is the chicest?

Funny, when I first saw this Tommy Ton image of SS14 NY show-goers on this morning, I scrolled right by. But when I took a closer look, I realized that the chicest girl in the photo, Vogue’s Meredith Melling Burke, is not even the focus of the shot. Love her navy Celine dress paired with Isabel Marant sandals. And the gold pendant is the perfect accessory.

  • The girl in pink looks like she doesn’t belong…..

  • I totally agree! Too bad she wasn’t the focus of the shot.

  • Love MMB!

  • I never even noticed the girl in the middle of the photo! My eyes went first to the Isabel Marant sandals (which I foolishly did not buy on sale at Bergdrofs : ( and then to the rest of her look which I loved! Real clothes, real people. Great post!

  • She is trying so hard..ala furry bag, birks and the mens pants..the woman to the far right is also chic.

  • I thought the same thing!

  • The chicest looks are usually quietly understated like the navy dress. The furry pink bag and white ruffle on the top take the middle woman out of the running. Way too “look at me” to be chic. Too bad she is the focal point of the pic, she won’t get the message.

  • Exactly same thing happened to me!

  • Totally agree! What a great look. Oddly enough, this is the second time this week that I’ve seen that furry pink bag. It appeared recently in one of The Sartorialist’s shots.

  • Is her necklace Saint Laurent? Love the entire outfit. You can tell when style comes naturally to someone and is present in every aspect of their life. MMB is one of them!

  • Honestly, I had the very same reaction to this shot, because I went back to it when my peripatetic brain acknowledged the Marant sandals. Love the look and the fact that we all had the same delayed appreciation.

  • Which begs the question…who has the better eye? 😉

  • love the navy outfit, but i’m curious as to people’s thoughts on the woman in the tan. similarly dressed with a simple, classic style, although physically much different proportions.

  • This picture is a treasure trove in terms of style if one takes the time to look at each woman. I think all the women in the picture look more chic than the middle figure because her outfit is too “out there” in terms of the purse and top she is wearing. I believe I spy a bra strap on the girl dressed in tan, which is never chic to me (not that it hasn’t happened to me). Basically, I think the top of the dress (too open for her) and the belt may be preventing her from not putting her best foot forward, in my opinion. Tan with red is a great color combo though, and her red bag is a nice touch. I’d like to see the entire out fit of the girl in the striped pants, as I think she looks rather chic in a classic way.

  • Totally agree! She looks perfectly put together and chic.
