Layering Lesson

Untitled-11172013-2A few days ago I posted on falling in love again with my own cashmere turtleneck sweater after I layered it over a longer T. A few readers commented that they layer over a button-down when their sweaters feel too short. While looking for product for the KiC shop this morning, I came across these new season looks from The Row at Barneys and had an “aha” moment. I think we are all on to something.

  • I usually rely on a long white tank top to layer under things. I can’t wait to try a white button down under a turtleneck. The row turtlenecks are lovely. Their pieces are so simple and chic!

  • Yesterday i shopped my wardrobe putting some weekend casual but cosy looks together- suitable for family walks, cinema trips, casual lunches etc. My favourite being layered long check shirts under a variety of grey and navy sweatshirts paired with white jeans. Layering feels right for me now- before I would have gone for one heavy sweater… there must be something in the air!

  • This is what I’ve been telling my sisters and friends for years… layering

  • I also like the look. As a short stature woman, I need to be very careful about where the shirt/turtleneck “cuts”. I think that is probably a concern for everyone except for the very tall and thin. How much of the underneath layer to show is also part of the equation. I have seen very young women doing this for some time with the longer white tee showing beneath a dark top, especially with lower rise pants. Looks comfortable.

  • I adore Lilla P for the bottom layer.

  • The Row sweaters are beautiful…I love the beige one. I usually layer a long tee or tank but lately I’ve liked the looseness and sharp contrast of a shirt hanging out. I just purchased a black and white checked shirt and it looks great with every sweater…neutrals or colors. I am always on the hunt for the perfect white shirt though. Finding the right length, collar, weight is not easy. I would love to see your picks on this.

  • The pale yellow sweater is on my list. Wearing a silk equipment blouse and short grey cashmere T-neck from high school. I was afraid that the proportions would be off on my 5’4” frame. I am pleasantly surprised. Love the look and very comfortable to run around. Again, thanks for the inspiration!
