It’s just us, thankfully

Animal-Bird-Turkey

As a child my family took turns hosting Thanksgiving with my Connecticut cousins. It was a big cacophony of a holiday and I hated every minute. These days my sisters and mother are a bit far-flung (London, Doha, and Naples, Florida), however, I am okay to be celebrating with just my own family unit this year.

Simple is the motto today. I am using a turkey recipe from the NYT’s, making only a little bit of stuffing (none of us really want or need it), and an apple crumble in lieu of a pie.

Tomorrow and this weekend we will see friends and start the holiday swirl, so, I’m thankful that today it’s just us.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  • Happy Thanksgiving, Preston! Due to some unforeseen circumstances, this year we celebrate with just our little family as well (myself, hubby, 2 kiddos). I am pretty thrilled to avoid travel, crazy crowds and loud gatherings. Making turkey breast, a little bit of cornbread stuffing with chestnuts and cranberry sauce. We fulfilled our potato quota with latkes last night. There will be pumpkin mouse pie for dessert though, I have made the same pumpkin pie since i was 16.

  • Hi Preston, here I am in Naples enjoying my first American Thanksgiving. A little cool today, but not nearly like the cold and snow back home(Canada). I am on my own for a few days getting the house ready for our first Christmas away from the usual family activities; and like you, looking forward to just us. Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Happy Thanksgiving to you, too! I have the distinction of saying I have never hosted Thanksgiving. I am a very ambitious cook, but TG dinner isn’t one I have had to take on because my mother-in-law puts on a feast like no other. Can’t be topped. Best holiday ever!

  • I am thankful for the little treat of reading your blog every day. And I like that my mom is out there reading it too even though we aren’t together this year. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  • My husband and I live in CA. We are both from Boston with family mostly on the east coast. We will be enjoying a huge buffet lunch with my sister in law’s brother who is coming to join us. We are going out because I don’t cook!!! Thanksgiving is a day to reflect on all of the blessings we have in our lives.
Thank you for doing your blog. It is a little ray of sunshine!

  • Happy Thanksgiving, Preston…albeit a day late! That’s because I was cooking up a storm for the holiday, which I LOVE to do! It makes me happy to hear the silence of family and friends munching away at the dinner table, knowing they enjoy both the food and the precious love that we share! I consider your blog a blessing in my life – a bright , fun spot in my day! Blessings to you and your family!
