Keep It Short

The cropped top is popping up everywhere this spring. Whether worn on it’s own or, as I prefer, layered over a white shirt, it’s a piece to consider.

  • What was that fashion rule, if you’ve done a trend once, second time or third time around, you need to skip it? At 38 I feel I am too old and too fat to rock this look!!!

    ameeJanuary 16th, 2014  11:17 AM

  • I’m quite a bit older than Amee, but I agree. Have you noticed that they often seem to shoot this trend from the side? For me, it’s just extra bulk, and a horizontal line where I need it least.

  • I chose the pic of the model shot from the side…

  • I love this look layered. Especially love it however, with a wide boxy elbow length sleeve. That’s what makes it fresh, imo.

  • I shouldn’t comment so early in the morning. I just looked at it on the Barney’s site and actually love it from the front.

  • love this layering look! another tip: the kid’s department. the past 2 seasons i’ve been living in a grey chevron kids poncho, size 10-12, by nico nico! it’s perfect over longer shirts and tee’s. http://nonchalantmom.blogspot.com/2012/11/favorite-thing-of-week-matta-poncho.html

  • No, no, no. Why do I want to visually cut the length of my body and make myself look sloppy or pregnant? This trend will pass in a nanosecond bc it is NOT flattering. No.

  • I love the look. I love layering. It is such a great way to express yourself with simple pieces and the crop top is a way to do it without a lot of bulk. As usual, Preson, you are spot on!!!

  • I really have to thank you for this post. I purchased the Marni cropped sweater that is on the Net a Porter site, and now after looking at the pictures and reading the comments I must face the music, it is not for me. I’ll happily spend the money on something more flattering…at least for me.

    MargoJanuary 16th, 2014  11:56 PM

  • The grey Marni crop top is already sold out on net a porter and no one else has one! I’ll hope for that return, Margo! In the meantime, I found a really cute, more affordable black cropped short sleeve version by Acne at saks.com.
