Slim Aarons

I want to catch the exhibition Slim Aarons: A Man For All Seasons at the Staley-Wise Gallery before it closes on June 28. Chronicler of the jet-set from the 50s-70s, Slim photographed Queen Elizabeth, Babe Paley, Mick Jagger, C.Z. Guest, Peggy Guggenheim, and my mother.

While at Vogue, I drove up to Bedford, NY to have lunch with Slim. He made sandwiches and we sat in the kitchen looking at his photographs. He was a sweet man.

  1. i love the last pic and remember seeing it on your blog awhile ago. you seem very protective of featuring your family– any chance you’ll post the photo of your mother or do we get to guess?

  2. I would also love to see a photo of your mother, but I understand if that’s too personal.

Otherwise, I really wish I were in the area so I could see this in person, too! Lovely.

  3. I love his photographs. One of my favorites is of Peggy Guggenheim in a doorway with a Picasso and a Giacometti sculpture on a table next to her. I’m going to miss the exhibit in NY by two days unfortunately.

  6. Would love to know if the sunbathing photo was taken at a hotel in Capri whose name escapes me — if anyone knows, please leave a comment :)
