‘Forty Years With The Brown Sisters’
I called my sister yesterday and told her that she had to take a look at this series of photographs by Nicholas Nixon in the NYT’s magazine (Susan Minot, my sister’s classmate at boarding school wrote the accompanying text). Nixon photographed his wife and her three sisters every year for forty years. I’m fascinated by the images, it’s like a very cool time-lapse, and wish my two sisters and I had thought to do the same thing.
Totally mesmerizing. Love that they were photographed in the same left to right configuration each year.
LOVE these … especially obsessed with the far right sister in the top photo. Those jeans, that Lacoste polo!!
Thanks for sharing this. It’s terrific and I love the article accompanying the photos. The shadow of the photographer in some of the pics is very cool! I hope there are many more years to come for the four sisters!
Truly remarkable.
Seeing the pictures in the NY Times Magazine this evening made me think how fast our lives go by. Makes me sad.
I can’t find any info on where they are from. I grew up with some neighbors down the street named the Browns. They had a bunch of girls. One was named Mimi, she was roughly my age. (born 1956). Just curious if it is the same family.
…and p.s. she looked very much like a younger version the Mimi in the photos who was about 11-12 when I knew her. I don’t remember the sisters though. Could just be a huge coincidence.
