On My Mind

Memory Lane

Today is the last day of winter break and we are all a little bit sad. It was a relaxing two weeks—I caught up on my sleep, saw friends, and fulfilled a part of my first resolution.

I cleaned out the bookshelves yesterday, a huge and rewarding project. Like the junk drawer in the kitchen, the shelves had become a catchall for random stuff. In the process, I found “Monkeys”, Susan Minot’s first novel, and “Metropolitan”, Whit Stillman’s debut film—each a beloved favorite that I cannot wait to reread/watch again. Both are reminders of another place and time in my life.

  • I recently came across my copy of Monkeys, too! I put it on my bedside table planning to thumb through it again before I pass it on.

  • January house cleaning is positively therapeutic! I always do ‘Spring cleaning’ in January/February. By Spring I want to be outdoors.
