A Slip Of Color — Keep it Chic by Preston Davis

On My Mind

A Slip Of Color

Vogue This story, from the May issue of Vogue, illustrates two sartorial bugaboos that’ve been on my mind—color and volume. In a nutshell, I’m tired of my neutrals-only wardrobe and, super-sized pieces.  However, I’m a huge layering  fan and these slip dresses worn over pants and tops keeps them from looking ‘borrowed from the 90’s’.

  • I’m not a big fan of slip dresses, but I agree these layered looks are fresh, modern and very wearable.

  • Preston, Question: I know you take many of your own pics and selfie’s but when it comes to editorials, does vogue.com supply these and you credit them?Just wondering how it works these days cause I am using style icons from the web and it does not usually give credit to a photographer but just another blog usually.

  • Love this look. I couldn’t wear the slip dress alone but last summer was shocked at how much wear I got from different kinds of layering. Highly recommend trial and error with this, don’t be afraid.

  • I love the second photograph – everything in it. Does indigo blue count as “more color?”
