In The Wall Street Journal

The Global Wardrobe

This story, “How to Travel the World Through Your Closet”  in The Wall Street Journal, is like a finger firmly on the current fashion pulse. Designers are not the only global nomads today, “(a) wave of wanderlust has hit the fashion landscape recently. It’s swept over other indie treasure hunters…”.  Debonnaire von Bismarck’s eponymous London-based shop, which stocks “Moroccan-style slippers from Lebanon, woven clutches from Thailand, jewelry designed with the Gem Palace in Jaipur and silk caftans created with an artist she discovered in Ibiza”, epitomizes this souk-inspired trend. I love items that have a found-on-my-travels feel, they can be an important facet of personal style.

  • The label that has this style of dressing in a one stop shop is Figue. Stephanie Von Watzdorf has such a great eye for colour, fabric and design. Truly eclectic and totally chic wearing Figue clothes inspires feelings of just having returned from some far away exciting location

  • I love to shop for local things when I travel, but I have a tendency to go overboard, and can’t carry an overly ethnic look. I’ve been known to come back from Mexico dressed as Frida Kahlo. I pursued the story and love the designer Tracy Boyd in London – the shirts are gorgeous!

  • Preston- I will actually be in Jaipur, Udaipur,Agra and new Dehli this summer . Do you have any shopping tips in those cities? I am very excited and hope to bring hope some special treasures to enjoy back in states that remind me of my trip to India. I can’t wait for ALL my senses to be overwhelmed!!
