It Items

Monday Morning Must-Haves

Three items that I cannot wait to wear this fall are a skinny scarf, long cardigan, and my classic gold hoops (while I look for a hammered pair à la Céline). I have not found the fashion-forward item—my friend Mary is considering the Gucci loafer/mules—hmm, I’m thinking about them, too.

Chloé scarf, Derek Lam 10 Crosby cardigan, Roberto Coin classic gold hoops, Gucci fur-lined mule.

  • I just don’t “get ” those loafers. I feel like Gucci is playing a cruel joke on us women. You have amazing taste so it just must be me !!

  • Agree with Amber. Those mules are one of those pieces that if someone saw you wearing them and had no clue they were Gucci, they’d think they were the oddest shoes ever. I do like the closed back loafer version of that shoe without the fur.

  • I find the shoes amusing, like a piece of art or something. They look so interesting on models in editorials but I don’t think they’d “transfer” well to a normal person. I like the idea of one fashion forward item, but those aren’t it for me.

  • I’m not sure about the “cruel joke” aspect of fur lined mules. They’re not a shoe that I’d buy, but I thought fur lined pool slides were pretty silly and someone bought those shoes.

  • I have to say there is something I like about the Gucci fur lined mules. They’ve definitely grown on me since I first saw them on the runway and they look great in editorials, but they’re just too of the moment for me. I haven’t found “my” fashion forward item of the season yet but it will most likely be a shoe or boot that will bring my every day gear up to date.

  • Preston, so glad that you are still willing to try fashion-forward items while the rest of us need a little time to get used to them. Who knows, maybe like the Celine fur-lined Birks, these will look covetable in another season!

  • To my eye, the fur hanging out of those loafers looks somewhat grotesque. Imagine them getting matted and soiled and picking up who knows what from the street . . . I agree with Amber that were it not for that bit ornament on the shoe, we wouldn’t give them a second glance. To me, this isn’t fashion forward, but rather fashion desperate.

  • Yes, these shoes are absolutely ugly. They are just non sense.

  • If i was being practical, the Gucci’s above would make great house slippers! All I can think of is how dirty they would get outside. It may not be as obviously fashion forward but I prefer a shoes with a block heel.

  • Love the cardigan. Just the right piece to transition into fall. I’m not a fan of the skinny scarf but the hoops are great! The shoes are a comedy routine!
