‘Unrealism’

Art world heavyweights Jeffrey Deitch and Larry Gagosian, both protégés of dealer Leo Castelli, are collaborating on an exhibition of figurative painting and sculpture opening December 1 in Miami. The show, ‘Unrealism’, will include many of my favorite artists–John Currin (his painting “Rachel in the Garden” above), Elizabeth Peyton, and David Salle–just to name a few. In the NYT‘s Deitch credits the resurgence of figurative art to “[t]he audience and artists [are] seeking a humanistic connection in art.”

  • I read about it this morning and so glad you posted this. It made me very happy to hear, painting is not “dead” after all. I love John Currin and have for a long time. I give myself many kicks that I didn’t buy a painting when it was still “affordable”.
