Jo Malone: Herb Garden Collection

British perfumer Jo Malone is launching a collection of scents inspired by an English herb garden. I use herbs in flower arrangements all the time—I’m so there.

  • I love the smell of fresh herbs and use them in floral arrangements as well, but not sure about smelling like one? Then again, I really don’t wear perfume, so maybe I’d like it?

  • Is the Lemon Thyme fragrance similar to Verbenas of Provence?

I just cannot forgive Jo Malone (Estee Lauder) for discontinuing my favorite scent: Verbenas of Provence. I actually wrote the company to implore them to bring it back, but they informed me that they’ve moved on.

  • I love herbs in a flower arrangement. I love the smell of herbs. I’m just not sure that I want to smell like parsley….

  • I’m sure they’re not pure oils; the scents are evocative of an English herb garden.

  • I, too, was a fan of Verbenas. For some lines (i.e., Annick Goutal, Darphin), being sucked up by Estee Lauder has been a death knell to the uniqueness and authenticity of their brand. Darphin is barely recognizable and impossible to find; Annick Goutal has lost numerous wonderful items from their product line. Bigger is not always better, except perhaps for the profit margin?

  • Paula: Are you familiar with Annick Goutal’s Eau d’Hadrien? Someone told me it was similar to Verbenas, but I’m struggling to find a sample of it. The staff at Nordstrom said Goutal has pulled back from the US market.

  • Lily – Thank you for this suggestion, and yes, and I wear it! Annick Goutal just opened a new boutique – 955 Madison Avenue – in November. They have pulled out of most stores where I used to find it – BG, NM, Saks, etc. They still offer their most popular fragrances and, thankfully, the Noel candle/room spray (a beautiful evergreen fragrance which I welcome any time of year). Sadly, they no longer offer the full range of fragrances, products, sizes, and the exquisite packaging is pared down. The Lavander fragrance is gone altogether (unisex and perfect for spritzing bedrooms & linens), as are the fabulous small square bottles. Many of the options of the line are just gone. However, I was thrilled to run across this boutique. Call (646) 964-4795, ask for Sylvie. If I lived in NY I would love to work there.
