‘Belle De Jour’

When I was at Harper’s Bazaar, my friend and co-worker Kerry Diamond told me that she loves the simplicity of a black and white outfit. Although I wear this combo often, I always add a third neutral to the mix. However, these pictures, from the April issue of Vogue Paris, reminded me of Kerry’s comment and make me appreciate the starkness of pairing just the two.

  • It’s beautiful and/but dramatic, which is why I too, often add in a third neutral, to sort of tone it down. I love it on other people….like red.

  • Yes, red and leopard-print are always better on other women…

  • I love black outfit with a white bag, or white shoes — just the one white piece.

  • I’m not usually drawn to strict black and white pairings, but the styling is beautiful here.

  • I’ve been wearing all white recently – with denim, that’s a neutral, right?!

  • These shots are beautiful. Love black and white. I’m not very inspired by American Vogue recently. Even considering cancelling my subscription.

  • I love how in these combinations it is mainly one colour with the contrast as an accent – far more wearable than equal amounts of black and white for me.

  • I have an aversion to white shoes. Never found them chic! Not even in the photos above.
