Thank You, Hedi

After months of speculation, Kering confirmed today that Hedi Slimane is in fact leaving Saint Laurent. The announcement coincides with the end of the designer’s four year contract with the house. The news is not a surprise, but I am sad nonetheless. My wardrobe certainly benefitted from Mr. Slimane’s vision—thank you, Hedi, for the perfect grey pea coat, evening bag, clogs, Fair Isle sweater, booties, etc; items that I cherish.

  • I am as fascinated by the business aspect of the fashion industry as I am fashion itself. I will be interested to see what Mr. Slimane does, not necessarily where he goes. I’m also interested to see who Kering selects to take the reigns.

  • I have a few cherished items from his time there that I think will be forever pieces. I hope whoever takes the helm, will have a similar vision.

  • I can no longer keep track of which designer is at which house. And maybe it’s my age, but I really don’t care.

  • I was also disappointed to hear this news…while I may not have been an active consumer of the ready to wear, I loved the accessories and the “rock-and-roll” Paris meets SoCal image that Hedi instilled in the designs…so fresh and covetable!! How many designers are taking their inspiration from LA? I’m not based in LA; but am a native of California, and perhaps that is what drew me to appreciate the design aesthetic. Hope his next venture is even bigger and better. Keep up the amazing work, Preston!! xo

  • Ahhhh loved Hedi at Saint Laurent. Just don’t feel there are that many visionary designers around now.
