‘Strap In’

Who knows, stirrup pants may grow on me—they’re certainly a great ski pant. I could see myself running around in a black pair with flats in lieu of yoga pants, maybe…

  • Ooh, I love them. Especially the black Marni ones with the taupe shoes.

    YasminAugust 17th, 2016  8:52 AM

  • Having done this one the last time around – I’ll probably skip it!

  • When I see this trend for the first time since a couple of decades ago, my reaction is eww. But then, my eye starts to see it with a newness. While I haven’t made any purchases, I could see myself softening and getting a pair of black stirrups to wear subtley with black boots. The key thing for me would be to wear it outside my boot or shoe like the Versace photo.

  • I like the white boot with the plaid. I think they would be a fresh, fun look. They were overdone in the 80’s, so I understand why some would not be ready to embrace them again.

  • NOOOOOOO! Especially not with pumps or ankle booties unless one is under 30 and didn’t get a chance to wear this trend the first time around. Might be okay with knee high boots…

  • I remember so well wearing black stir-ups with a black blazer and big faux-gold Chanel earrings in 1986. It was a happy time. Stir-ups are slimming and it will be fun to feel just out of college again. Thanks, Preston!

  • I remember my mother wearing this “ski” style in the 60’s!

    Deb M.August 17th, 2016  11:42 AM

  • This is the perfect time to exercise the rule that if you wore it the first time around . . . they’d look adorable on my daughters, but I can’t see myself wearing them — especially since I no longer have the Benetton sweaters I paired them with in 1988!

    ellaAugust 17th, 2016  12:02 PM

  • I hated them then, I hate them now.

    SusanAugust 17th, 2016  12:57 PM

  • No, no and no.

    AllisonAugust 17th, 2016  3:34 PM

  • No thank you.

  • I agree with the ladies
    absolutely NOT
    won’t even go there.
    NOT happening.

Like most your readers of a certain age been there done that didn’t work out the first time.

However i do love the Marni shoes and the pattern of the Balenciaga pants but no stirrup pants.

    CelesteAugust 17th, 2016  6:09 PM

  • Nope!

    ClaireAugust 17th, 2016  8:37 PM

  • I think it’s a cool look on the right person, which is not me!

    KathyAugust 17th, 2016  9:39 PM

  • I think a stirrup pant only makes sense if one is riding or snow skiing. For me, chicness is grounded in function. Which raises the question, what is the purpose of the stirrup in these looks?

    PaulaAugust 18th, 2016  11:12 PM

  • No
