Self Service Issue #45

A Red Lip

This holiday season I’m inspired by the matte, red lip color in this picture from Self Service issue #45—it just looks so right.

  • The model’s blue eyes, red lips, lovely freckled skin, and the fur make for a stunning combination!

  • I can’t put off such a strong look but I CAN do the blotted-away-to-almost-nothing version!

  • It looks beautiful on her. I have occasionally worn a very red lip for a photograph, which looks good, but it doesn’t in person. Curious if anyone else has tried that, or has a similar experience?

  • Matte is perfect for red. Many nice shades of red out there. Some bright orangy red, some more burgundy red, some more cherry red. Whatever suits your skin color, matte is the best bet because glossy red tends to look too pouty, too look at me, but matte does not, while still calling attention. Mac has a lovely one that suits many skin tones: Lady Danger – to me it looks the shade above.
