Give Me a Ring (or 10)

I mentioned yesterday that I am compiling my spring wish-list and the Balenciaga rings below neared the top. But after seeing the above picture in February Vogue, I realized that I am already half way there (1 Trinity, a signet and numerous stacked simple gold bands). I also prefer the mix of styles and placement.

An American in Paris

It’s expected that Alexander Wang will be named creative director of French fashion house Balenciaga, succeeding Nicolas Ghesquiere. Although Alexander is a controversial choice, I loved his last two collections and am interested to see what he will do with the venerable label. If he brings his sleek, modern, and very wearable sensibility (without becoming too mass), we may all be in luck.

Ring me up

It’s no secret that I am a ring stacker. So, when I saw these on the Balenciaga runway last week, I flipped. They are sold as a set per finger; I will take five please.

Perfect French

A little bit of industry insider info. This week, it was announced in WWD that former French Vogue editor, and one of our favorite chicest of the chic, Marie-Amelié Sauvé, has been named Senior Fashion Director at W. At KiC we are always harping on personal style versus being trendy. Sauvé has the former in spades. Sure she wears of-the-moment clothes (above in a new spring Junya Watanabe trench and Balenciaga bag), and it helps to have good friends like Nicolas Ghesquière of Balenciaga (she served as Balenciaga’s stylist for years). But she is not a slave to any trends; we highly doubt you’ll ever see her in bright floral-printed pants or head-to-toe pink anytime soon.

Super-chic, modern and fashion-forward: she has that perfect style trifecta.

Samira Nasr

Fashion Director, ELLE

Samira photographed for KiC by Marko MacPherson. Celine sweater, A.P.C. jeans, Balmain boots and L.V. bag

We have both known Samira for years having worked together at Vogue ages ago. Samira has been tippy top of our list of chic women to profile as she has that spot-on personal style where everything she owns we want to have too. And now that she is the Fashion Director forELLE, we will all be able to follow her covetable fashion picks.

Born in Canada, Samira came to NY to get her masters in journalism at NYU. She assisted Grace Coddington at Vogue and then became a sought-after stylist in her own right. Samira mixes fashion-forward pieces with über classics and wears everything with an enviable nonchalance. Her personality is as warm and easy going as her style, a fashion diva she is not. When she showed up to be shot for KiC she was the epitome of modern chic and yes, we wanted everything she brought!

Thakoon Spring 2012 dress

Just when I had tasked myself to find more black day dresses, Thakoon presented this irresistible shift for Spring. Not only are the colors heaven but I am a big fan of the longer-hem-in-back trend. My new Balenciaga dress is cut this way and it is tremendously flattering. Actually, many of Cristobal Balenciaga’s dresses had a longer back and I wonder if this trend is a nod to the recent Balenciaga retrospective.
