Am I a suit woman?

Having never worked in a traditional business environment, I am not hardwired to wear a suit. When I was at Vogue, Grace Coddington wore perfectly tailored suits to evening events and always looked polished and pulled-together. But, we rarely wore them to the office and now that I think about it, I don’t think I have ever owned one. Blazers, yes, and matching tops and bottoms, but not a finely tailored, menswear inspired jacket and pant. If I ever wanted to try one, now is the time.

This weekend the WSJ ran a round-up of some of the season’s best trouser suits. My favorite, and the one I have my heart set on, is from the recent Dior spring show. Raf Simons, in his debut RTW collection for Dior, opened the show with a trio of drop-dead gorgeous suits. But I also love one from the Theyskens’ Theory resort show and will try it first as it will be in stores early December.  I will let you know if a pant-suit suits me.

Blue polish?

Marion Cotillard in Dior couture

Yesterday, my très chic French friend Anne asked me if I liked the robin’s-egg-blue nail color Marion Cotillard wore to the Dark Knight premiere (look closely at her fingers and toes). As a mother of a 12 year old daughter, I am well versed in the rainbow of polish options. I have not gone there myself and,  I’m not sure I would. However, I see lots of blues, greens and purples on other women (well past the age of 20), but I don’t think those colors would suit me. Actually, I rarely ever wear polish because a) I hate waiting for it to dry and b) chipped nails are hideous.

So I have to ask, are you wearing colors outside the red/pink spectrum this summer?

Marc’s possible move

marc jacobs

Marc Jacobs

The rumors of Marc going to Dior are ramping up and I for one would be thrilled. We first met in college and then worked together in the late 90′s (I cast a number of Vuitton shows). Marc is insanely talented and would probably like a change right now. My fingers are crossed.
