Chic this Week

The WSJ ran an article on the pinky ring (I wear a Cartier trinity stacked with a gold band on my smallest finger) and the vintage pics are the best part of the story!

Last week the NYTs ran a piece on Jennifer Mankins, the founder of three Bird shops in Brooklyn. She champions and carries young and up-an-coming designers and is credited with upgrading the available fashion options in the area as well as ‘curating the Brooklyn Look’. I have been to her Cobble Hill boutique, but want to check out her other two.

I saw this story in Tablet Hotels’ Magazine and wanted to book a trip asap. Included in a round-up of hotels for the locavore, Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, England pictured above looks like pastoral bliss.

Petersham Nurseries

Last weekend the Wall Street Journal ran an article on a couple who, at Mick Jagger’s urging, bought a grand house just outside of London. Gael and Francesco Boglione bought Petersham House in 1997 and a few years later purchased the nursery next door. What makes the story so inspiring is that the Boglione’s are not gardeners, yet they transformed the run-down nursery into an enchanting destination where you can buy plants, homewares, furniture and have lunch in the cafe or tea in the teahouse. The restaurant, which started in a shed, can now handle hundreds of diners.

As we move into summer and move our lives outdoors, I am drawn to places like Petersham Nurseries- places that encourage me to create a welcoming and stylishly bohemian outdoor living space. Forget the expensive furniture from the fancy garden center, found and reclaimed pieces with cushions in fun, all-weather fabrics are the way to go. And maybe a few chickens for good measure.

Chic this Week

Sarah Lavoine in T Mag

The super chic interior decorator and Polish princess Sarah Lavoine photographed in her Paris apartment for a profile on T Magazine.

Hanneli Mustaparta on her eponymous blog

Jennifer and I love the white turtleneck this fall and agree that Hanneli’s pairing it with a short-sleeved sweater is the perfect way to wear it.

Katie Grand in the WSJ

There is a great profile on stylist Katie Grand in the WSJ. Casting for Katie was always so easy as most models would clear their calendar to work with her.

Photo of Caroline Sieber by Garance Dore

We agree with Garance, these are cool boots and a chic look overall.

Scents of Spring

Courtesy of the Wall Street Journal

Every spring I am tempted try a new perfume. I wear and love Annick Goutal’s Mandragore, a citrusy fragrance and my daughter wears the Mandragore Pourpre which is like mine but with a touch of black pepper- it suits her. A recent story in the WSJ on Orange Blossom based perfumes piqued my interest and I am going to test drive all the ones they listed. I learned that many many scents are derived from the orange tree and not just from the blossom itself. Who knew?
