The Striped T-Shirt Alternative
For a bunch of years now the ubiquitous Breton striped T-shirt has ruled my spring wardrobe. Probably because it’s just so easy to wear. But the nautical stripe looks a tad tired right now (not to be confused with the fab, bold stripes at Dolce & Gabbana this spring). My solution? The tie-dye and python printed cotton tees by Proenza Schouler. They are super cozy too.

I especially like the python print, but I don’t seem to ever tire of nautical stripes.
I’m with you about those nautical stripes. I find a too busy top, too busy.
Love these tops. I am a little tired of the ubiquitous striped tops. Maybe because my closet is full of them.
How can any chic woman or man grow tired of a Breton tee? It is the epitome of chic!! The tops shown above are okay but they don’t compare to the classic Breton tee. There is a reason why those navy and cream stripes caught the eye of Coco Chanel–they always look modern, minimalist and sophisticated. Plus I love the utilitarian quality of the classic Breton–everyone can afford some version of it and I’ve yet to see someone look bad in a Breton! Take a look at pictures of Coco, Picasso, Audrey, Bardot, Jean Seberg, Cary Grant etc. in their Bretons–the ease and elegance is beyond and could never be achieved by wearing a python print tee or that other zigzag thing up there. Long live the Breton!!!
I’m just a wee tad tired of them…
Hopefully the Breton trend will go away and the style will go back to being a true classic.
I love your blog Preston!! Agree or disagree with the suggestions it really has helped clarify my style choices. Frankly, I had no idea how passionately I felt for the Breton until this very afternoon. Long live Keep it Chic!!
Sometimes a girl just needs a break! These are fab and I’m not even a “snake person”. I don’t think you are getting rid of the classics but just changing it up?
