Bar cart in Marissa in Naples, Florida

For some inexplicable reason, I have been wanting a bar cart. Inexplicable because I barely drink and rarely entertain at home. But I still want one; I think they look welcoming.

Before lunch today we popped into Marissa Collections in Naples (I’m in Florida for the day) and lo and behold, a fab bar cart. With mini cupcakes no less.

  • I like them too. So impromptu party. I rarely drink these days too, but I have always loved the ritual of “having a drink” with friends. A touch of festive in an ordinary day.

  • Yes, I agree so chic and grown up, harkening back to the glamorous day when everyone drank and smoked with abandon. It is very cool until your teenagers drain all the bottles!!

  • Bar carts are tres chic! So much cooler than a built in bar set- up. I love the casualness of it – so inviting! All you need are beautiful crystal tumblers, a gorgeous silver ice bucket and cocktail shaker and beautiful bottles of spirits and mixers and my friend you have a party at the ready!

  • A drinks tray or butler tray table set out with beautiful bottles, glasses, and a crystal ice pail trimmed in silver is a hospitable touch in a home. Ours is an English antique butler tray table. But a wonderful silver or pewter or wooden tray set up on any table or chest in the living room, dining room, den, library, or in a sizeable front hall will work. So many beautiful choices for glassware. Start with Yeoward. Get good ice cube trays, and make your ice with filtered water. Or buy ice. No refrigerator ice, please!! It smells awful and imparts taste in a good cocktail. Stick to classic cocktails–the rest is silly (i.e., those giant pink martinis women drink at bars).

  • I have always loved the look of a drinks tray. I found mine at an estate sale. It had belonged to a French actress, from the 30’s, who ended up marrying an American. Her estate items were beautiful. It had so many pieces, that were amazing. The sale went on for days. I did not get there, until it had been running for quite some time. I can only imagine what I missed. seeing.

  • We call that a ‘hostess trolley’ over here, and I would love one. A friend of mine bought me a decanter for Christmas, it’s the grown-up way!

  • I want a bar card too! But I want mine for a night table…..stack my books, magazines and lotions/potions, medications and vitamins….
