Ode to Helmut

To me, Isabel Marant’s fall collection is a serious nod to Helmut Lang (the Helmut). Like the pieces Helmut gave me after each show, items that I still love and wear, I suspect that the same will be true of this IM collection– beautiful and wearable clothes for the long haul.

  • It is hard to believe that we are already thinking about autumn/winter!!!! I too am desperately trying not to covet the new seasons offerings and be more practical in editing my purchases – my new motto is “wear what I have”. In light of my new focused approach I would so love if you could write a piece on a few practical mid price timeless items to take us through next season. Kind regards Melanie

  • Like you, I also probably spend more, but there is a limit. The prices are simply out of control. I will most likely edit what I have and stick with what I know works: classics in neutrals and high quality materials. And always with an individual twist. The fads of the year, mixing crazy patterns, neon, mile high shoes, too short skirts leave me cold to begin with. Less truly is more.

  • Are the higher prices due to the increased production costs due to fewer items being produced as a result of slower sales? I can understand if a designer of high end apparel has to increase prices to maintain the integrity of their line in a decreasing market, but not if its just to exploit it’s clients ability to pay more.

  • Perhaps they are making up for lost sales the past few years. As long as people pay the prices, they will stay high. I don’t actually know the answer.

  • Ooh yes, bit of a shift.

  • And Daria Werbowy wears them so well! I do love the studding on the second outfit, give it a nice kick.

    Best,
