My Fall Uniform

Stella McCartney, Isabel Marant, Saint Laurent

Starting with my favorite Frame Denim black pants from last spring, I’ve added the black Stella McCartney top. I am completely in love with the boxy shape. Don’t be discouraged if your size is sold out, I have sizes 0-6 at home as I want the perfect one and will return the other three. The top runs large so I will keep either the 2 or 0 (I am usually a 4).  I’m thinking of pulling out my camel-colored (gold) Birkin which has not seen the light of day in ages. The Saint Laurent duffle is beautiful, but I have challenged myself to buy only 5 items this FW, forcing myself to wear things I already have.  And these may be the booties. TBC

  • Feel right at home with this look! Found a box top this summer and am loving it – surprisingly, it is very complimentary to most shapes and sizes. I am also looking for a new bag, and am torn between the duffle and some of the beautiful new-styled totes. Any thoughts between the two? Thanks for always making this fun!

  • Oh this is just perfection.

  • pretty leather on the watch. I still prefer my rolex.

  • Agree with Tabitha – perfection, just wish the heels on the boots were a bit lower for comfort.

  • LOVE that Stella top! Sold out except for super-duper tiny size! Waaaa! Sometimes, I think all black can skew Johnny Cash on me (I have nothing against JC – just don’t want to channel his clothes) but the way you put this together is, as Tabatha says, “perfection”.

  • Thanks to this post, going to pull out an old boxy zoran top

  • Camel is a nice alternative to grey here and it really pops against the black. I definitely think you should get those boots– I love how they look from all angles, especially from the front.

  • Thanks for the outfit inspiration, Preston.

Love the idea/reminder of wearing what we have, and being very selective, and deliberate about wardrobe purchases. I decided to work from an annual clothing budget this year, instead of a monthly allowance, which never seemed to work for me. Already it’s been so helpful. I don’t want spring to come around and run out of funds, missing my self imposed goal: Quality, not quantity, and on budget.

  • I always love a skinny jean (the darker the better), but as soon as I try on a boxy or floaty top it makes me look 8 months pregnant. Wish I could pull it off. I’m thinking if I substitute out the Stella top for an Equipment blouse I might have my uniform for fall. And dusting off my Togo 35 which goes into hiding during the summer. The booties are fab, as is the necklace. A nice post-school-run-actually-getting-dressed outfit for fall! Cheers, Laura from

  • Love it! Too bad the height of the bootie doesn’t love me. I have somewhat similar from last season though and am also into “shopping my closet” this season. Thanks for the inspiration, lovely choices as always.

  • I really want to try a pair of jeans from Frame Denim, I love the silhouette from them. The Saint Laurent bag is beautiful, I honestly think every one of their bags are to die for.

  • I am going to buy a pair of Frame jeans when I’m in NYC at Christmas – I do hope we can catch-up!
