‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ in W

Natural, non blow-dried, hair is on my radar, and was big on the fw13 runways. I’m inspired by this funny piece in W, and although I do my own styling, I’m going to take the dryer-less challenge.

To avoid total withdrawal, I’ll let my hair air-dry just on the weekends. It’s raining today, perfect time to start.

  • Watch out Rachel Zoe’s Dream Dry! Timing is everything. As Heidi Klum says…” in fashion, one day you’re in and the next day you’re out.”

  • Reminiscent of the 70s to me. I have recently heard people speaking of “beach waves” or “beach hair” which I think is the same idea. If its a natural look, it makes sense to work with it, but cautiously. This kind of look could be totally underwhelming on a woman over 30, in my opinion.

  • I was surprised how much I enjoyed the Bumble and Bumble Foam Shampoo, after airdrying, it gives hair texture and natural wave and I have stick straight hair. It smells delicious too.

  • Oh boy! Music to my ears! I’m going to give air drying a whirl!

  • As is often the case, Preston, you’ve hit on something that is timely for me as well. For just a few weeks now, I’ve decided to go the no-blow-dry route, and it’s changed my life! Thanks for the cute W link; you’ve inspired me to write my own piece about my experience.

  • I like the idea of this, but my hair is so wavy and frizzy I end up looking like Gene Simmons from Twisted Sister. Very 80’s. Or like Julia Roberts in Mystic Pizza (remember that movie?). It’s not a good look for me. I also feel that being brunette when I let my hair dry naturally it makes my make-up stand out more and I can’t get the right look with colors. I think women with a semi-wave in their hair look brilliant when their dries naturally. Mine has too much wave and body. It may even be okay the day of, but the next morning every single strand of hair triples and a las, Gene Simmons is looking back at me in the bathroom mirror. I have embraced the whole natural sebum thing and only wash every 4 days, that has definitely helped my hair become stronger and heavier not so frizzy. Great post! Thanks for listening.
