It’s a Plaid, Plaid, Plaid, Plaid World

Plaid is everywhere this fall, and I missed the boat on this one. I did not buy a Celine jacquard check piece, a plaid sweater from either Stella or Saint Laurent (I was eyeing both early in the season), or a tartan anything. I have been struggling to come up with fun, not your run-of-the-mill hostess gifts, when I came across this collage in Elle Decor’s December issue. The plaid-patterned serving plates would be new and unusual, the salad tongs too. Maybe I can get in on the trend this way.

What's New
I am having a plaid/tartan moment also. I ordered a Blackwatch tartan parka from Cabbages and Roses a quirky brand in London a while ago. It arrived by post yesterday and it was love at first sight… so cool and a different take on a plain parka without being trendy.
I love the traditional tartans, but some of the ones with a lot of white in them remind me of those plastic laundry bags
A little plaid goes a long way. Just a touch or accent is great – otherwise, it’s too much like a school uniform.
Zara has a beautiful tartan scarf. It is very soft. That’s my plaid item of the season. 🙂
You should pass on this trend Preston. That is what I love about your style, it’s not about fads. Celine or not, in a year people will be saying “what was I thinking”.
The chairs are fantastic!
Hi Preston,
In London the plaids are everywhere. My sense is that this is the transition moment from fall to winter, not a fad. I’m already wearing a wool plaid scarf and will have several more before this season is over. Soft warm cashmere plaid swathed around a cold neck never goes out of style.
I think a touch of plaid is timeless, a roomful is just trendy. One of those chairs in the right spot would be a great statement maker.
I just ordered a plaid shirt from Madewell. Will wear it under sweaters so as not to show too much plaid–just a hint.

I do not care for the Celine or Stella McCartney plaids that were shown this season. Happy you agree! I don’t know They were not appealing. I like your simple effortless style. Bringing in plaid in a small way or not at all makes more sense. Here’s to more grey!!!!
And I hate those shoes!! How is that tasteful???
by the way, if someone bought me that plaid chanel cuff, I would definitely wear it. Just the right amount!!!!
(and i did love the YSL plaid shirts this year but QUITE PRICEY for a casual shirt, i think!!!)
R 13 had some really cute options!!!!
