Chic And Practical

A reader commented that she prefers the Saint Laurent sneakers to the Stan Smith Adidas, and I may have to agree. Regardless, thank goodness trainers are chic right now, hard to navigate snowbanks in heels…

  • I’m assuming these pics were shot in NYC? I hate to be even more practical, but as a faithful reader in Chicago the first thing I noticed is that neither of these women is wearing socks/hose/tights. Yesterday our high was 10 with a wind chill of -20. While I’m very anti-nude hose, frostbite is not good either.

  • I prefer them as well – so sleek, with perfectly clean lines.

  • Hmmm . . . $75 Adidas or $570 Saint Laurent? I’m not always price driven, but on this one, the Adidas seem to be the choice for me.

  • The Saint Laurent are beautiful but I’m sticking with the Adidas, and I received the newsletter today that they’re available so can’t wait!

  • I have been looking for the all white womens Stan Smith Adidas to no avail. Even Adidas on line does not have them, where can I find them, I love this look!

  • Chic right now? I think they are either perennially chic or not chic at all. I am in the latter school of thought.

  • The Saint Laurent trainers are more streamlined than the Stan Smiths – and both are better than heels!

  • Julie…I have been searching for the Stan Smith’s as well and discovered that they won’t be back on the market until closer to Spring. I’m thinking March perhaps?

  • Just saw the Stan Smith’s available at addidas.ca but unfortunately only in sizes 9 and 11. Still might look around for a passable facsimile. I’m sure if it’s not out there yet, it will be soon.

  • I agree with Tori, the price difference is just too great to justify going with the Saint Laurent version. If you are after super streamlined, Muji has a pair of trainers that fit the bill. Or there is always Superga. Granted neither one are leather, but the plus side is that they are also a lot lighter than Stan Smiths which makes them easier to spend the day in.

  • The Saint Laurent are of course preferable, but for the incremental $500 – the Stan Smith are worth the compromise.

  • Love that stylish women are wearing trainers as a chic messy weather option. The saint Laurent ones are a great option if money is no object! Love them! Still, would I wear them in the slushy snow ? I don’t think so! Too pretty when they are clean!

  • Love your eye for street style. The casual looks inspire me the most.

  • K Swiss makes a great pair called clean classic, and for only $70 they are a no brainer! Check them out:
