Fair Isle
I’ve wanted a Fair Isle sweater for a few years, and now I’m determined to find the perfect one. The Saint Laurent is pretty good.

I love Fair isle sweaters, but feel that the pattern is unflattering. My shoulders, which are of normal size, look too broad and out of proportion. The sweaters in the Twiggy photo and the lower Linda McCarney photo have a narrower band of pattern. That might work.
I’m just loving going back in time to Twiggy. What memories.
Spot on for the Saint Laurent sweater! love! Can’t believe you found the same one Twiggy wore decades ago! http://madelienerose.com/
I will NOT go there again! If you wore it in college, give it to your daughter.
I’d wanted one for years too, and bought an inexpensive, but nice one from Boden last year, but took it off every time I put it on, so I think I won’t be going there again.
really?
As a preppy Connecticut girl of the 70s/80s, I don’t see myself wearing these again! But such memories!

I really love the Saint Laurent one, and I think it would look great with something unexpected, like leather and heels !
Twiggy was (and still is) so charismatic and beautiful !

I lived for a good Fair Isle back in college, but always feel like if you’re old enough to have worn the trend the first time around, you shouldn’t go there again.
I saw some beautiful wool Fair Isle socks in subtle earth tone colors (brown, green) which would look great with clogs or ankle boots and jeans in the Fall. If you love the look, but are overwhelmed with it in a sweater, a small dose can still make an impressive statement.
I don’t know…I wore these in the ’60s when I was in high school (the late ’60s). I question whether or not it would be wise to spend $800 on this style. If you really want one of these sweaters, I’m sure you could find an acceptable version for less than the YSL version.
Going to Ireland in a few weeks….shall I bring you back one?? 🙂
Only ones I like are the Icelandic patterns. The design wraps the shoulders and just looks more modern.
Agree with April– Some years ago Ralph Lauren had a line called Rugby. They did fabulous Fair Isle knit woolens–a tam-beret style hat, LONG gloves, and a very long scarf. Bought it all for our daughter, then about 18, and she still wears it to this day (23). The gloves and scarf were knock out, with a bit of ruffle knitted edge at the top. So creative, so luxe for a young woman!
Fair Isle sweaters, especially vintage, are a must-pack for a summer trip to any alpine destination–the Colorado Rockies, Canada, Switzerland–even Maine. Perfectly casual for cool mornings and cool nights!
Thanks April. Will check out that idea.
Check out Adam Lippes version and Margaret Howell had a beautiful navy/grey/cream one in her FW 2014 show. Beautiful!
