Christopher Kane As many of you know, I need evening gowns for two events this fall, not something I usually look for. While scrolling through London show images, I paused when I came across this look by Christopher Kane. Wish I could wear a black satin suit to one of the balls, it would be a  super chic alternative.

  • Hi Preston,
    If your daughter’s ball includes opportunities for family photos, you might want to find out what the background will be. I co-chaired my daughter’s debut ball a few years ago and discovered that while a black dress is flattering to many, against the carpeted staircase we photograph families it was totally lost. I wore jade green, great for our December event. Enjoy! Love your blog!

  • It depends on the event, but I don’t see this outfit as fitting the bill for a formal event at all
    More like Saturday night dinner !

  • The look above would be fantastic for a cocktail party, art opening, any night in the city–however, I urge you to wear a gown to the ball. It isn’t festive dancing in pants, and you will want to get out on that dance floor with your family and kick up your heels! A debut is such a festive event–there are few excuses to wear a gown. You could wear this great pant/jacket dozens of times. Go big . . . : )

  • This is such a great take on evening wear, i am sure you could pull it off effortlessly ! The flats are beautiful on the runway, but I think a great pair of heels would be perfect for a party !
