On My Mind

Getting Out There

Claudia Schiffer A huge blog that I love and follow asked me months ago if they could profile me. Honored but nervous, I agreed to a shoot date, then canceled with no intention of rescheduling. I enjoy participating and being quoted in articles; I just don’t crave the spotlight and hate being photographed. A few days later I was in Tod’s chatting with a fellow shopper about loafers and the woman mentioned that she loves a blog called Keep it Chic–I realized that she didn’t recognize me as the author because I rarely post pictures of myself.

So, I went back and rescheduled the shoot. Inspired by this image of Claudia, I was photographed outside yesterday in a big coat and sunglasses with my hair (hopefully) covering part of my face.

  • You should be proud of your blog, this is one of my favorite, and has been for years now. I understand that you don’t want to be in the spotlight, yet I think you should be recognized for your incredible work, very unique in my opinion ! Can’t wait to see the photoshoot, could you share it with us once it’s out ?

Have a great week end Preston !

    CarolineOctober 18th, 2014  8:13 AM

  • Looking forward to seeing it! Hopefully you will let us know when it comes out! ( although I have a feeling we will notice it on our own – you said it’s a big blog!)You deserve recognition. You’ve really touched a lot of people’s lives. I really enjoy your ideas! ( and you have caused many of my most loved purchases I. The past few years!)

    Paula BOctober 18th, 2014  8:16 AM

  • I can’t wait to see it! You continue to inspire so many of us…you deserve “spotlight”!!! That’s a great story about Tod’s and your blog!!!!

    MaryBOctober 18th, 2014  8:53 AM

  • What a strange experience that must have been Preston, to have had your friend tell you about this great blog of your very own! Did you confess?! I really hope so as it’s a great blog and fashion resource and inspiration. Also you keep us all nice : )
I don’t follow very many blogs. So I’d love you to tell us which one you’re on. Pleeeease?!
Ps I do miss seeing the photos of Claudia doing the school run that we used to see.

    JustineOctober 18th, 2014  9:08 AM

  • ha I hear you Preston (I’m sure That’s Not My Age will relate too…). But there comes a point where people do want to know who is talking to them and even though it’s nervewracking to put yourself out there, you’re still in control and it does open so many more doors. It’s probably your worst nightmare but I bet your readers would flock to a Keep It Chic meet & greet ( I know I would)!

    disneyrollergirlOctober 18th, 2014  9:16 AM

  • Yours is the only blog I follow on a regular basis, so I hope you let us know when the profile is out. I understand about the nervous part.

    KathyOctober 18th, 2014  9:20 AM

  • Justine– the woman was a stranger, we just started chatting. And I no longer run paparazzi photos, the rights issues are not worth it.

    PrestonOctober 18th, 2014  9:32 AM

  • One of the most refreshing aspects of your blog is the fact the focus is on style in its various aspects, not self promotion. Many bloggers start out that way, but once the blog is “discovered” appear to lose their balance and think “they” are what readers are most interested in. You share your personal life in a friendly, mature way and I know your readers feel respected and included. That being said, in this environment, it is wise to participate to a point, and I know you will do it in the most discreet “chicest” way! Looking forward to seeing the feature.

    AprilOctober 18th, 2014  9:52 AM

  • I absolutely love your blog and would love to read your profile. I’m sure the photos from the shoot will be wonderful too. Hope that you let us know when the profile comes out.

    LynnOctober 18th, 2014  10:10 AM

  • Preston…. Would love to know other blogs you follow

    Kim PizzitolaOctober 18th, 2014  10:59 AM

  • Let your light shine! Can’t wait to read the profile. (Am not surprised about the Tod’s story. I told a fellow school mom that I’d spotted you at pickup and she said “Oh, I read her blog with my morning coffee every day!” I think you have a lot of fans in the neighborhood, as you probably know.)

    EllaOctober 18th, 2014  12:33 PM

  • Agreed to Kim!i’m interesting what other blogs do you like Preston

    MargaretOctober 18th, 2014  1:03 PM

  • I love your blog. In the morning its the first one I seek and late at night I look for a sneak peek at tomorrows posting. While I can’t afford a single item that is featured, I am inspired by and have achieved a higher level of fashion consciousness. Thanks for all your hard work.

    carolineOctober 18th, 2014  1:43 PM

  • I understand about not wanting to be in the spotlight but I will join the chorus of requests to share the profile when it is out. Your blog has become one of my regular reads– I really enjoy your perspective on fashion and life.

    JennyOctober 18th, 2014  1:47 PM

  • I ran a post listing my favorite blogs/sites two years ago, but must have taken it down. Actually, I’m not a fan of archives and have been taking many old posts down… I’ll look for it.

    PrestonOctober 18th, 2014  1:50 PM

  • Thank you for the nice comments!! Made my day!!

    PrestonOctober 18th, 2014  1:52 PM

  • Good for you, Preston. Can’t wait to read it.

    LilahOctober 18th, 2014  3:58 PM

  • Love your blog Preston! You inspire me daily!

    HollyOctober 18th, 2014  4:38 PM

  • Love ‘Keep it Chic’!
Introduced my 24 year old to your site to encourage her to be more discerning. Classic style transcends fashion.
Please don’t remove archived articles – I love flicking back and am often surprised by how current posts remain.
Another long term reader – first time comment.

    PetrinaOctober 18th, 2014  5:50 PM

  • Your blog and MarkDSikes are the only ones I read!! Love your efficient, insightful, and oh so chic commentary! Keep it up

    VictoriaOctober 18th, 2014  6:00 PM

  • You deserve to be featured! Though I totally understand your need for privacy.
I am thankfull for daily inspiration.

    Greetings from France,

    ZivileOctober 18th, 2014  6:28 PM

  • I can’t wait to see you keeping it chic! I’m sure the photos will be amazing.

    DoreenOctober 18th, 2014  9:19 PM

  • That is amazing!! You go girl! You deserve the spotlight and while it is wonderful to be backstage making it happen (aren’t we all??!!) take a bow front, center stage! You deserve it. KIC is fabulous and you work very hard to make it what it is.

  • Oh Preston, thank you so much for sharing your apprehensions but I agree with April’s statement that we love being inspired by your point of view and not your ego. I also love Petrina’s comment regarding how current your posts appear no matter how old the original post date, I very often go back through them for fresh insights.
Thank you for all the great work you do and can’t wait to see the profile.

    SueMOctober 18th, 2014  11:16 PM

  • Preston, I hope you feel very proud – clearly your work stands on its own and doesn’t need self promotion. However, you do deserve whatever appreciations and recognitions come your way. You do inspire many people!

    ErinOctober 19th, 2014  9:47 AM

  • Preston, your blog is my daily read. As an artist, your blog inspires me. As I mom, your blog lets me dream of Gucci boots and understated elegance. I so look forward to seeing the article of the woman behind something I look forward to every day.

    Jill AnthonyOctober 19th, 2014  12:00 PM

  • I agree with April that you are not about self promotion and I find it extremely refreshing that a talented person like yourself is so modest! In my opinion it’s a great character trait!

    Sue TothOctober 19th, 2014  12:22 PM

  • Congrats Preston! The fact that you don’t thirst for fame is a big reason why I’m a regular reader (along with your superb editing skills). That said, you certainly deserve the attention. Enjoy it!

    C.MicholOctober 19th, 2014  2:29 PM

  • I agree with Victoria. You and MarkDSikes are the only blogs I follow.
Please do not archive your old posts! I enjoy looking through them . They are so timeless.

  • Congratulations, Preston! Recognition well deserved. As a relatively new blogger, I consider KiC one of the best out there and hold it in highest regard. Tasteful, and timelessly chic! I look forward to reading your site every day and appreciate all the hard work you put into it. Thank you.

    TanyaOctober 19th, 2014  10:22 PM

  • I love the fresh yet substantial insights in KiC, and have followed this blog for nearly 3 years. I also love to go through old posts which I still find relevant to this day.

    SamOctober 20th, 2014  2:25 AM

  • I spotted you on the “friend” list of my bestie from NYC’s ( I’m in London) Facebook page and squealed out loud like the “fan girl” I am of your blog! Thank you for such great and relevant content.

    MonixOctober 20th, 2014  5:33 PM

  • Ditto!! It took practically pulling my teeth to get me to have pic on my site. And now I am being asked to do a video!
