Egon Schiele: Portraits

Egon Schiele It’s overcast and warm, perfect gallery weather. Actually, I’ve had it on my calendar for a few weeks to see the Neue Galerie’s Egon Schiele exhibition today. This portrait of Gerti Schiele, the Austrian artist’s sister, is one of my favorites. I can see Gustav Klimt’s influence, Schiele’s mentor, in this picture.

  • Egan Schiele is one of my favorite artists. Just yesterday, while visiting the Met, I saw a portrait by Alice Neel, the similarities in style were notable and I’m curious now to see if she was influenced by the short lived , Schiele. I was fortunate to visit his museum in Vienna a few years ago and encourage anyone to make the trip if you have the chance. He was such a talent.
