Early Spring Uniform

Saint Laurent

Quite simply, here’s what I want to run-around in once the weather warms up. It’s already my basic uniform, I’ve just added new jeans.

There are lots of great jeans options right now, and I’ve decided to update my look with a ’70s-inspired pair. Silver jewelry is new for me, too, and a welcome change. I should raid my mother’s jewelry box, she has loads of pieces just like this ring. If I’m not mistaken, the top of the ring flips open so the wearer can store poison beneath the stone—we often wondered why mother had so many of them…

The jeans run one size small and the sneakers run large.

  • Love it! This is it, all you need to feel polished and put together. I wear this uniform in the spring and fall. I add my chunky men’s Gant watch and I’m good to go.

  • Love it all. Curious what you wear under the blazer?

    KathyJanuary 16th, 2015  11:01 AM

  • Love it! I plan on adding penny loafers to the mix

  • My blazer is more like a little jacket and I can fit a lightweight knit turtleneck sweater underneath.

    PrestonJanuary 16th, 2015  11:41 AM

  • Great post Preston! Question: I have a long torso and am 5′-8″. I love a lot of these SL blazers and the Row as well, but they all look silly on me because they are too short. Any ideas/brands for a longer length fit?

  • Lovely! Please keep adding more of your gorgeous ensembles, they’re my favourite part of the blog!

  • Keri, try Stella McCartney, she always has a number of blazers and I bet they’re longer.

  • I love this kind of easy, but put together outfit. This edit is fab but very expensive and I love it for inspiration.

My run around is more a mix of prices and hopefully just as stylish- Blazer/Jacket J Crew, Adidas Stan Smith sneakers, J Brand Jeans, Uniglo Cashmere sweater, Hermes Evelyne.

Preston please keep posting these edits they are so inspiring.

  • Melanie, I agree that the jacket is expensive, but it is the ‘idea’ of the outfit, and it’s easy to copy at most price points. My favorite navy blazer is from Comptoir des Cotonniers, and I doubt I paid more than $400 for it. I wear it every spring and fall, it’s a true go-to piece. Also, since I have no need for evening or traditional work clothes, I spend more on my run-around pieces. I basically wear them all the time—from school drop-off to meetings, you name it. I think I need to post on this…

  • Preston, love this look, however, reading the responses (KeriD) who has a longer torso, it made me think, I am short right at 5 feet tall. Where should a blazer hit at the bottom?
