Shifting Into Spring

I’ve been on the hunt for a white dress and bought this Balenciaga shift yesterday. The shape suits me and I’ll throw on a cardigan when it’s cool. I will wear this dress for many, many years—it’s a forever piece.

  • Love this! Just wish it were more affordable !

  • I love the simple details of this dress but wish it weren’t polyester which I cannot stand to wear in the summer.

  • I love the dress but am having a hard time finding it ( net a porter is out of most sizes). Any ideas on where to find it?

    IdeApril 29th, 2015  6:57 AM

  • Sizes come back in stock.

  • Preston, it’s a beautiful dress and will indeed be a piece for the long-term. Is the length and silhouette right to also wear with cream cropped trousers or flowing ‘slacks’ 😉 as a tunic? Enjoy!

  • It’s fabulous. Love that basketweave too. Also love that it’s a bit off white or ivory. It really is a timeless dress.

  • It’s gorgeous – wear it well! I wish they had it in navy – the ivory is beautiful but I am too clumsy for an ivory dress. Thinking about the pique shift you have in the shop though . . . .

  • A less expensive version of a $1600 dress is not necessarily a cheaper dress…there is a LOT of room below that price tag before you get to cheap. It is a beautiful design, and I’m sure the fabric and workmanship are excellent, but how many people, even those who are comfortable, spend that much on a day dress?

If you can, go for it!

  • The dress is stunning and looks like an incredibly well made, quality dress that you’ll wear for years to come. The style and price point are right in line with the perspective of your blog. The short length adds to its versatility to wear as a tunic over pants and the fabric is substantial enough to not limit it to one season. Love it!

    A Note On StyleApril 29th, 2015  10:52 AM

  • I love it. Are those pockets in front? Cool and gorgeous. Shifts are a good investment right now. I think they will be a macro trend soon and last for awhile based on their staying power in the 60s and 90s. They also have that simple and sophisticated or “classic” quality which makes them wearable longer term. I’m sad I need to put my full skirts away (only because they are still in good condition)- I think silhouettes are headed in the straight and Aline direction for awhile.

  • It’s a beautiful dress and you will look fabulous in it for years to come. Hope you have many wonderful times wearing it !

  • It is a lovely dress, although I have a problem with polyester material. I would love to see it made in a wool crepe or super 140’s wool with a bit of lycra. Perhaps I will see if a dressmaker can create something custom for me with a similar design using a vintage designer Vogue pattern from the 60s.

  • This will be fabulous. Do you have suggestions for cleaning good white/ivory clothing which cannot be laundered?

    PaulaApril 29th, 2015  11:43 PM

  • It’s an amazing buy ! Absolutely love the dress, its shape screams Jackie O, and it will look just as good with heels as it will do with flats.

  • What color/style cardigan would you wear with it? I have a white shift dress I barely wear because I don’t know what to wear with it (or tie over my shoulders) on summer evenings. Thanks Preston!
