On My Mind

Dressed Down

I went to a business lunch this week, something I try desperately to avoid. I’m an artful dodger when it comes to any form of meet-and-greet, but I was curious about these folks, so I went.

The new Balenciaga white shift was hanging on my closet door, the perfect ladylike lunch look. But, at the very last minute, I changed into white jeans, a grey silk blouse and black Marni sandals, and I’m glad I did.  Perhaps, if I don’t feel that I must ‘dress’ for a meeting, I’ll accept more invitations (doubtful).

I love this image from Pinterest and want to copy her look—it’s my dream spring uniform and I’d even wear it to a business lunch.

  • Preston, any idea who those espadrilles are by? Which grey silk blouse did you choose?

  • My grey silk blouse is Vince. I do not know where this woman got her top or espadrilles.

  • Love this Preston! Kim, the espadrilles maybe Viscata –

  • Love the outfit in the photo and your outfit sounds great as well. I always feel more myself dressed down.

  • I have recently had an inkling for a softly taliored white trouser suit and am on the lookout. The all white look with classic accessories and casual shoes is so timelessly chic. Beautiful backdrop too!

  • I love this – all of it – agree with Preston. This is how to dress. Preston, I do love the Balenciaga shift you selected, but I completely agree with your choice to change at the last minute. I think all white – particularly at this time of year – even in the city – is so incredibly chic and the espadrilles add a touch of French – not perfectly new, but perfect with her outfit. She is also so chic, so that clearly adds to the image. I also love, for some reason, the fact that she’s just there with her sunglasses – no bag, nothing obvious – just lovely! Another lesson, at least for me, that less, or at least the correct version of “less”, is always more!

  • Sounds like you went the sophisticated Emmanuelle Alt route, sans the heels. Must have been chic and probably admired by your lunch companions.

  • I just purchased a pair of Castaner espadrilles that are very similar to the pair she is wearing —–natural

    great outfit!

  • The length of the jacket in the photo above is particularly chic. It doesn’t appear to be a structured jacket, nor is it a tunic. Can you tell us more about this piece? Knowing when to dress down just a bit, and when to wear the unexpected–without looking ‘casual’ or boho–is a skill the most stylish women have. Great call!

  • This picture is everything, it screams peaceful and chic ! And you’re right, you shouldn’t dress up if you don’t want to, the only thing that matters is that you’re confortable in what you wear !
