In Porter

The Scottish Highlands And Islands

Our next big family trip is to Scotland’s Highlands and Islands, an area I’ve dreamed of visiting my whole life. So, I was beyond thrilled when I spied this travel story in the current issue of Porter. Eilean Shona, a private island estate owned by artist Florence Devereux’s family, has cottages to rent. I’m so there.

  • We’ve planned 2 trips there and both times have had to cancel for various reasons. It’s high on my list, and hope the 3rd trip planned will happen. Love the idea of the cottages to rent on the private island.

  • We went to the Highlands and the Isle of Skye in 2012 and it was one of our favorite trips!

  • I’ve been to Scotland once, and it was over ten years ago, but I still remember my trip vividly… The country is beyond beautiful, nothing I had never seen before. You are going to love it, there’ such a charm to it !

  • Eilean Shona is utterly magical. I stayed in Tioram cottage last year, I hope you are prepared for pure heaven and stunning Scottish views!

  • We went on a camper van trip to the outer Hebrides last year and Shetland and Orkney this summer. Both trips totally magical. Don’t miss Barra, just gorgeous. Skye the least favourite as the most touristy ( but still beautiful!). Recommend the camper van route as its legal to park anywhere so we woke up every morning to the most beautiful views, and experienced the most amazing sunsets over lochs and seas. Enjoy

  • I’ve always wanted to go to get the feel of our ancestral lineage…The Eilean Shona property is stunning and that is where I would love to stay if I go. …But I can’t help but think of a silly but enjoyable Netflix series called Monarch of the Glen…haha
