On My Mind

It’s Surprising

I’m amazed that some of the ‘hot’ items were available when the sales started. Maybe the warm fall weather dissuaded folks from stocking up on outerwear because there are still a number of great coats to be had.

  • I tend to find most ‘hot’ items and also most of my wish list available during the sales (or at least during the pre-sales). I think it is because prices are so out of whack with reality and hence only a few buy their wardrobes at full prices. The internet means we can access stores around the world, so we can do ‘global’ searches ourselves. Finally the huge increase in production over the last 15 odd years coupled with a more recent economic slowdown means more stock to sell at sale time.

  • I think there were a lot of great looking pieces this season, but somewhat impractical, and at very high prices. Other pieces, like your SL peacoat went fast, both gorgeous and usable.

  • I agree MMS. If there’s something I really need or fall in love with then I take a deep breath and pay full price (within reason). Otherwise I have a wish list and I take a view as prices fall over what my priorities are and what my available budget is. At this time of year I’m thinking parties. But by the New Year reality dawns and I start to think about my investment wardrobe. It might be February before I make a major purchase and that’s usually from fall pre-collections. It’s all done online.

  • it’s not only the warm fall, it’s lack of money rather…

  • The weather has had a huge impact on my shopping. I live in Los Angeles, and the sweater season has become so much more condensed. I’ve had to buy a lot more lightweight / silk tops to substitute for sweaters.

  • That Isabel Marant cardigan on your list is to die for. On sale or not on sale! Thanks for the beautiful collection.
