Fashion Resolution: Rainbow

There are two articles in The Wall Street Journal today that dovetail nicely. In one, Meenal Mistry lists her 5 Fashion Resolutions for 2016 + a story on rainbow stripes = my own resolution to add more color to my wardrobe.

This is not the first time that I’ve challenged myself to go outside the neutral zone, but hopefully, this attempt will be successful.

  • As I have matured, and allowed myself less sun exposure, I’ve noticed I look better in a pure color than I do in most neutrals. However, the rainbow thing reminds me of Marcia Brady, Sesame Street and Saturday morning cartoons. I do not think it is for me, even ironically.

  • Living in NYC with a wardrobe full of neutrals, this sweater sings to me and reminds me of my 70s childhood. I will definitely be adding rainbow stripes to my wardrobe. Thanks for the new year inspiration!

  • I never wear color but this jumper (if I can get my hands on it), a vintage pair of flares and Gucci loafers is where I’m headed.

  • Best way of adding colour is through accessories. Few chunky non expensive necklaces or colourful scarves or if you want to try stripes try it as gloves.
Other than that I like you stick to a neutral pallet.

  • Who can’t appreciate the straight forward nod to the 70s. I’d pair this look with with the GG belt, gold hoop earrings and white or light blue denim.

  • Since my only fashion resolution was no impulse buying, I’ll have to think about this one…..

  • This sweater does remind me of the sweaters that I wore as a teen in the 70s. It’s been interesting to watch this 70s revival play out in real time. I never thought that designers would find concepts to salvage from that era, but here we are!
I’ve seen inklings of an 80s revival and I’ll tip my cap to the designer that can make “Hammer Pants” a thing. On second thought, maybe Jonathan Anderson has already done that!

  • That’s funny, I’m just writing a piece on Style Resolutions for the Guardian & I’ve just been thinking about colour. Love the Gucci sweater – I have a Sonia Rykiel striped cashmere sweater that I’ve been wearing again recently (and also an old Gap knit that’s not to dissimilar to the Gucci one)

  • I often wish that I’d bought that Gap sweater!!
