On My Mind

The Cardigan’s Comeback

A few days ago Alyson Walsh, editor of That’s Not My Age, posted on the return of the cardigan. I think she’s right. A ’90s staple when paired with a slip dress (also making a huge comeback), it makes perfect sense that this classic sweater is popular again.

*Not sure above is a cardigan, but you get the idea…

  • I love cardigans and have never given them up. They’re perfect for the climate of LA, and I’m always on the lookout for good ones.

  • I have to agree with Kathy – I’ve always worn them! They are perfect for layering in the SE. If they are coming back in popularity that just means more options.

  • Love cardigans! A merino wool works well all year, all seasons.

  • I’ve always liked them because they can have the feel of a jacket without the heaviness. To Kathy and Jennifer’s point, they’re great for layering over a t-shirt or tank when the day cools off.

  • I have never stopped wearing them either, I didn’t realize they weren’t fashionable. I also prefer them to place of blazers for formal work situations, and was glad to see Marissa Mayer does the same.

  • I love Aerin’s pic too. Can someone tell me the brand name of her cardigan? Thank you.

  • A perfect example of an item that women keep wearing even when it’s “out”. They’re simply too practical to give up: a little warmth as a layer, a more feminine alternative to a jacket for work, a great wrinkle-resistant travel option, and a pop of color when the seasons change. I would put pumps with a modest platform and the pashmina on the same list!

  • They were out?

    LilyFebruary 19th, 2016  10:36 AM

  • I wasn’t aware too that they weren’t in 🙂 I wore them in the last 20 years and the stores always had them in one variation or other – classic, long, short, flowy, belted..

  • Out here in the west, we always wear, carry and keep in our cars cardigans. Jackets are sometimes too formal, structured or hot so cardigans are a great substitute for a jacket, providing the right amount of style, warmth and comfort. Vie cardigans!
