  • I find trench coats very difficult to buy – and as I live in SW Scotland, they are a necessity! That is part of the problem – they need to be functional as well as beautiful. I am tall (5ft10) and very cool toned, so finding the right style and colour is very difficult as most don’t suit me.

    There are different weights for Summer and Winter too – so I think even if you’d got one in Spring, you might be looking for another now. And styles and proportions are changing; I actually recently returned a “classic” trench because it suddenly didn’t look quite right. A bit dated.

    All the trenches in this story are beautiful. I will no doubt invest in a long, languid trench at some point – there are a lot of long length ones coming in. Meantime, I’ve bought an oversized, minimal white double cotton raincoat from the Max Mara sale which is lovely for now.

  • Aquascutum. That’s all I’m saying. I bought mine seven years ago and it is still my perfect trench. They are the kings (not beige/freight but a pale olive – perfection!).

  • Yes, love to know everyone’s thoughts on a good, hard-working trench. I live in Chicago and need one that will keep the dampness out.
