Chanel Haute Couture

I’m inspired by Haute Couture but don’t often cover it because it doesn’t have much relevance to my lifestyle. Yet, when the Chanel team invited me to pop by to view the recent SS17 collection, I jumped at the chance to see the looks up close.

Originally shown in Paris on January 24 at the Chanel headquarters, the 1930s Art Deco-inspired collection is beyond beautiful. The evening wear, especially, with it’s mirrored embroidery, is something to behold. My favorite bit of the presentation highlights the house’s use of 3D printing (top right) to map out the placement of the jewels. One of these incredible dresses will surely be on the red carpet at the Academy Awards.

  • How envious I am of you, Preston! I would so love to see the Chanel couture collection up close- although I would also want to touch everything and look at the constructionn, which I’m sure was not allowed. I fulfill my haute couture fantasies by looking at the runway pictures on Vogue’s website and doing my own couture sewing. But no individual can match the resources and talent of Chanel!
    And, by the way, what did you wear to view this fabulous collection?

  • Exceptional silhouettes and such beauty. I can only imagine the workmanship. I really admire Mr. Lagerfeld’s talent and that he is still working! He must love his work and live to create beautiful things.

  • The latest issue of the Wall Street Journal Magazine has a delightful article on Lagerfeld and Chanel, written by Elisa Lipsky-Karasz. He’s quite a character! Quirky, hard-working, connected to everything contemporary. I was surprised to learn he’s 83.

  • I love that this man is 83 and still working hard with the same dedication as if he were 40! Hard work has biblical roots, and for me, it is one of the most important things in life.
